This MOE ad misses the point of its own message

The focal point of this MOE ad is the student in the background of the picture, yet she is left out of focus. This contradicts the message of the ad, according to STOMPer Beth.

In an email today (May 5) the STOMPer explains:

"This ad says that 'a teacher pays attention to the student at the back'.

"But when you look at the photograph, it is clear that only the front girl is in focus, while the girl behind is not even shown clearly."

Photographer uses made in Afghanistan camera...:p Since when teachers like the boys in the back row?....or anybody in the back row....those are the teacher's death throes...they do not exists.

The advertiser meant the back of the bus. Therefore, the girl in front of the picture (closer to the viewer) is furthest from the front of the bus.

But the Stomper is right, there is equivocation of the word "back".

i think it's fine. focus is on the girl in front. the girl in the rear who's out of focus might be left out by most. but the message is opp of that. in fact, it's on that girl. make sense.

also, if this ad gets you talking. it's already successful in getting the message out. (across maybe.)

If they want to get people talking, they should show a picture of a teacher whipping a student

that sure will get people talking. but that will probably induce a bad impression that the teacher is mistreating the student.

for the current context, it's about students. there will be students that's "out of focus" by most people. but teachers will be paying attention to them still.

hopefully the teachers nowadays do that.
my personal experience was great. the principal personally called me up and gave me addtional 1-on-1 lesson (tuition) when i was in primary school when he found that i was lagging in class. *and apparently i wasn't the only person. my brother, his n my friends all got his attention.

i think there were over a thousand student under his care. and yet, he made time for us. 6+ in the morning, before the rest of the students go to school. he would get us into his office and teach us, math, english, science etc.

on top of all the usual stuff. another thing that he always talk n teach is the school's motto. 礼义廉耻 (Courtesy, Justice, Honesty, Honour)
a life lesson that's sadly missing from many of the younger people.

This is one superb ad it shows the clearly focus student as bright and and out of focus kid as a weaker student!

Now we have ads who are creatively made!

Good and creative photo. The stomper have low IQ to capture the photo meaning. As you said" Clear photo is bright student and blur photo is weaker student but the teacher never forget about weaker student that way the weaker student still in photo.

During my time, we have to recite the Confucius teachings that covers the above, I think....too young to know the meaning...but just parroting the words...

But nowadays they study bullshit 101...
