Store manager refuses to sell product to off-duty promoter
A store manager apparently shouted at STOMPer S, who was a promoter at the store, that he "doesn't want to sell him anything". The STOMPer was off-duty at the time, and he was surprised by the manager's refusal to serve a paying customer.
In the STOMPer's email report:
"I am one of the product's promoter who was attached to this Gain City store and my job is to help Gain City sell their products even though I am not their employee.
"As they are celebrating their 29th anniversary they have many products on special promotion. I understand that it is unethical for me as working personnel to purchase items during working hours thus I waited till my knocking off time which is at 9 pm.
"After that I walkout from the store for a drink and return at around 9.15pm to buy the items I wanted.
"I asked one of the managers named Chan whether I could buy the items and he say "Go and choose it yourself " as I headed to browse the item that I want to buy.
"The store manager shouted at me loudly and said that "I dont want to sell you anything".
"He is obviously not the owner of Gain City thus I strongly believe that he had no right to decline a paying customer. When I probed him further on why, he declined to tell me the reason and repeatedly challenged me to complain him to their higher authority in full view of other customers and staff.
"Since he challenged me to complain so I ask for his name to lodge a formal complaint but he declined to do so.
"I have been attached under several electronic stores in Singapore and purchased many products from them. Each time I was treated like any other customer.
"I have never encountered such ridiculous behaviour, especially from a store manager.
"I'm posting this not because I want to get some freebies from Gain City. I doubt that I would visit their stores again.
"I just want to highlight the unprofessionalism and unreasonable service attitude of the store manager and I demand a written formal letter of apology signed by the respective store manager.
"Singapore's service standard is already low; this kind of behaviour by the store manager will further damage it."
STOMP spoke to the contributor and he said that he was only working there over the last weekend, and there had not been any incidents between him and the store manager before this event. The store only closes at 10pm.
