Continued from Harry's Bar sells expired beer, AVA investigating

The spokesman for Harry’s Holdings added that his staff had received "a few minor complaints" from customers and in those cases, the staff had either allowed the customer to pick another beer or had given the customer a refund.

The spokesman added that it was common for bars to sell bottled beer even after they had expired, but at a promotional price.

Head brewer Ernest Ng from Red Dot Brew House confirmed this.

Said Mr Ng: "There is no question of the safety of consuming the beer within the first few months of the beer’s 'best before' date. It is just a question of the beer’s freshness and taste.

"But after six months, it is a good chance that the taste and quality of the beer maybe compromised."

The Harry’s spokesman claimed that they would stop selling the beer beyond six months of its expiry “depending on feedback and existing stock”.

He declined to reveal the number of crates of expired beer the chain had left.

What of the four bottles of beer which did not carry the expiry date stamp?

The spokesman said he had "no explanation" for this.

"We cannot possibly check all the bottles."

The AVA said if they come across any case of tampering of the beer’s date-mark, they would take action against the traders.
