bros.........if i switch from Singtel to M1..........

1) i using Digital Voice......so will retain same home phone number ?........need to pay for this since i switch to M1 ?

2) i need to inform Singtel that i switched to M1 ?

3) M1's ONT has only 1 Ethernet output but i need at least 2 outputs - can i use Ethernet splitter since it doesn't need power or must use a powered Ethernet switch ?

if need to use powered Ethernet switch then the extra electricity cost will erode all cost savings of switching to M1.......

1. Yes, you can retain the number. Some ISP provides free or support digital voice, eg. M1, Starhub, etc. I think SIMBA don't support.

2. Yes, you need to inform both parties. According to my sauce in IMDA, many telcos make it difficult to switch ISPs and home phone number on the same day. For example, you can only port your number after your contract ends, and the switch is not instant. This means you often have to keep your old ISP service active even after your contract expires—usually paying higher, out-of-contract rates, to miminize downtime on your home line

3. Your Ethernet output will be linked to a router. If you stay in HDB, one wireless router is usually enough. Some telcos provide free router. Make sure your router speed matches your ISP speed. Eg. WIFI-7 for 10gbps plans. The router will support wifi and a few lan-cable connections.

If you don't need WIFI, you need a switch with uses a bit of electricity, passive splitters that don't use electricity are slower and less reliable.

1. yes, you can retain your home number, for payment if any, it depends on your new ISP, M1 charging for the service usage

2. when you switched to M1, their technician will come to your house to install their ONT(ISP specfic)

3. if you needs more than 1 LAN output and don't need WIFI then a switch(cheaper than WIFI router) is needed. If your connected device need powered ethernet then get the correct switch that provides the ethernet with power

the extra electricity cost will depends on the power draws by your connected device but should be of minimum cost and not because of switching to M1, you need to pay to the original ISP had you not switched ISP

ONT only supports 1 output for LAN, get a router with multiple LAN ports or Ang Mo brand network switch, 10gbps switch not needed unless you using desktop or playing online games that need low latency

i did research and i think my old Singtel ONR actually consume more power than new ONT + Ethernet switch..............

so TP-link or Netgear...............which one more reliable ?..............both about same price and 3 year warranty............power consumption difference i think 1-2 watts - will make any difference to electricity bill if i power on for 18 hours daily ?

Come on la, the power consumption for these devices are laughable at best. The air-con, the electric stove etc uses way more electricity. Heck, you shouldn't even turn on your laptop or use an external monitor cos those use power too! haha

i paying $30.45 for 500mbps with Singtel.................now M1 got $26.90 at higher speed..............can save a bit mah.............
been using for the past 2 yrs contract 2x(renew once) the 1Gbps subscription, same or cheaper than the Sinktel rate
now paying few $$ more switched to 3Gpbs subsription

Of course u need to port your home digital line from Singtel to m1 la.

Why didn’t u ask M1 how to port?

i got ask................then later some guy on another forum say my home phone number will change since i switch from Singtel to M1.............

but since i already using Digital Voice on Singtel...............port over to M1 should be free............

many thanks, bro...............

i try to call Singtel see if i can get same price as M1 with higher speed than what i have now...............see if i can get free new ONT or ONR from them.............but i think those bastards won't offer me same price lah.............

i already on Digital Voice with Singtel...............hope move over to M1 will be free..............

i have a wireless router than i can use as a switch but the power usage will be much higher than just a switch.................lucky a switch from TP-Link or Netgear is not expensive...........

possible to port the number over as for my case, applied M1 broadband, ported the analog singtel line over keeping the number. later switched ISP to MyRepublic with ported number maintained

A standard Wi-Fi router consumes between 5 and 20 watts of electricity. Running it 24/7 uses about 3.6 to 14.4 kWh per month, which generally adds up to only $10 to $30 per year, depending on your local utility rates

That's why I plan to use Ethernet Switch......if I use ONT + router, the added electricity cost will negate any savings from moving to M1......

Very cham.....even 3 bucks a month also need to save......

Singtel is the best

Once in a while Whizcomm offers cheap fiber broadband, even cheaper if you sign up for CMLink mobile plan too.

The booths of Whizcomm and CMLink are also side by side at tech shows, for whatever reason.

MyRepublic's 3Gbps(abt $36/mth) subscription comes with free ONT has 3x LAN ethernet output, you will save on a switch or router thus save on electricity bill
but not sure for the 1Gbps subscription, comes with the free ONT with 3 ethernet ports?
