The 2026 World Cup Thread

Messi already won the world cup in 2022.

This year should give chance to other country.

Though J. David score 3 goals, he is not listed. Canada cant go far for him to have more matches to score goals. Same as E. Haaland.
K. Mbappe, H. Kane and L. Messi can score more goals in coming matches and they are likely to proceed to the round of 16.

Football is coming home. It is high time for England to win the World Cup again.

Paraguay midfielder Miguel Almirón (former Newcastle player) became the first player to be sent off for covering his mouth during an on-field confrontation. He received a straight red card in the first half of a 2026 World Cup group stage match against Turkey.
The dismissal was enforced under a new FIFA law introduced to combat racist and abusive comments, which are sometimes hidden from lip-reading cameras. [1]
The new regulations stipulate the following:
  • The Infraction: Any player who covers their mouth while speaking to an opponent in a confrontational situation can be sanctioned.
  • The Incident: Almirón covered his mouth while exchanging words with Turkey's Mert Müldür. Müldür immediately reported the action, and after a VAR review, the referee issued the red card.
  • Exceptions: If the conversation is in a friendly or non-confrontational context, players are still allowed to cover their mouths.
Some background to this new 'Prestianni' Law.
Personally, giving a straight RED for this kind of behaviour is pretty harsh. and even a bit woke.

If FIFA is serious about cracking down on racist abuse, then go all the way. The players have been warned, and Almiron disregarded it to his own peril.

Huh? Now close mouth during confrontation is red card?
It has been well-publicised before the 2026 World Cup, that covering one's own mouth during an on-field verbal confrontation with an opponent is a straight red card offence. This is to combat hidden racism and homophobic abuse which is an ongoing problem that is difficult to prove. I guess you haven't heard about this development.

It's a blessing in disguise, those Muslim Turks couldn't even beat a 10-man Paraguay. I'm sick of those Turkish fans, everytime the opponent player gets the ball they boo and jeer.
Tolerance of others is not something that Muslims are known for.
