M'sian activist apologises for throwing chocolates into sea hoping they reach Gaza children
His actions drew criticism for potentially polluting the sea and harming marine life.
A Malaysian influencer-activist has apologised after getting backlash for throwing chocolates into the sea while on a humanitarian aid mission to Gaza.
In a May 18 video that appears to have been removed, Muhammad Hareez Adzrami, also known as Haroqs, filmed himself with a large bag of chocolates on board the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0.
He picked up fistfuls of chocolates, then hurled them into the sea.
"Keep sending chocolates to the kids in [Gaza], even though our radio transmission is being jammed," he wrote in text at the top of the video.
Haroqs' actions
raised environmental concerns, such as the disposal of plastic waste into the ocean, which could potentially harm marine life.
The video was
reshared on Reddit, where commenters criticised him for littering and chasing clout.
Apology
Hours later, Haroqs
apologised for his actions, saying he knows "it is not proper and it pollutes" the sea.
"I understand that I'm not a very smart person," he went on.
"I just had no other way to transport the chocolates to the children," he said. "Perhaps you will not be satisfied no matter what method I choose."
He added that he hopes "Allah manages to deliver these chocolates to the children" of Gaza.
Previously also brought chocolates
The 26-year-old Malaysian also participated in the GSF in
October 2025, on a ship that was later intercepted.
He had packed an "emergency bag filled with chocolates", as he showed in a
photo on Threads before the interception happened.
In another
post, he wrote, "Whatever happens, my chocolates are still safe. I still have plenty of stock, I want to give them to the kids over there."
As of May 19, Haroqs is among four Malaysians on board 10 GSF 2.0 vessels that have continued to make way to Gaza, and are expected to arrive safely, the
New Straits Timesreported.
