No crime does not mean no crime, and for every wallet returned to the police, there are probably 20 more that had all the cash stolen and the ATM/credit cards used to make purchases through Paywave.

Many years ago when my son was in secondary school, he went to the McDonalds at King Albert Park and left his wallet behind with his student concession card and cash inside. Instead of returning his wallet, the person who found it stole all his cash (about $45) and threw his wallet into a drain along King Albert Park. A kind woman walking her dog found it all wet and dirty, but managed to contact his school.

Surely McDonalds has CCTVs at every branch so the dishonest person will be arrested soon. I hope that there is an update on the news.
Not just McDonald’s. Most public places have CCTVs these days. I won’t be surprised if the thief was captured on CCTV taking the wallet.

My nephew used to work in a sports store back in the early 2000s when it did not have a CCTV. He found empty hangers and missing goods at regular intervals despite clothing having electronic surveillance devices that trigger alarms at exit gates. Shoplifters managed to remove those tags using pliers or similar tools. It was only after CCTVs were installed that culprits were discouraged from stealing because they could be identified long after leaving with their loot.

If this woman stole my pants, I would allow her to nick my briefs as well.
