Singaporean Amos Yee, 27, who was convicted of child sex offences, will be banned by organisers of a Singapore anime convention after concerns over the safety of minors were raised online about his attendance.

The event, Doujin Market 2026, is described as "Singapore's premier pop culture creators convention", with this year's theme being inspired by "Wuxia, Xianxia, and the Four Arts".

It will feature booths by artists and creators and will be held at Suntec City Convention Centre on May 9 and 10.

Attending

Yee wrote on X in a May 8 post that he would be attending an anime convention on May 9.

That same day, an X user shared screenshots which warned about Yee's intention to attend Doujin Market.

The screenshots showed Yee's messages saying that he had bought tickets to the second day of the convention.

The user warned other attendees to be careful and report Yee to security if they saw him "acting suspicious".

A Mothership reader shared that the event is attended by "a lot of minors".

Not attending

On May 9, organisers of Doujin Market shared on Instagram that they have received "lots of reports from the community" that a "known problematic influencer intends to attend the show".

"He will not. We've cancelled his tickets and are working to ban him from all our shows," the organisers added.

They assured that they took the safety of convention attendees "very seriously" and have a "no-tolerance policy".

Online users celebrated the move in the comment section, with many thanking the organisers.

Yee reacted to the ban on X, writing, "I was wrong. The anime convention did ban me."

If a known child sex offender is banned from an anime convention, then should homosexuals be banned from attending events where men and especially teenage males are present?

Banned from event

The event, Doujin Market 2026, is held over a two-day period from May 9 to 10 at Suntec City Convention Centre.

Yee posted on X on May 8 that he planned to attend the convention.

Following reports from the community and concerns raised by attendees, its organisers said that they had "cancelled his tickets and are working to ban him from all our shows".

Nonetheless, he turned up and was spotted by other attendees at the event.

He also posted on X, describing the convention's atmosphere via posts and photos.

Attacker claimed Yee tried to molest another attendee

Following the attack, the alleged attacker posted about the incident on his Instagram story, claiming he had witnessed Yee "[try] to molest someone".

He then tried to stop Yee and make him leave the event, he claimed, but Yee had allegedly attacked him, leading him to strike back out of self-defence.

Yee posted about the brawl on X with a photo of a bloodied upper lip.

Mothership has reached out to the police for further details.

?weird... I do not believe Amos is trying to molest someone. The PAP supporters will do things to ban him in all events.

probably they are thinking by cancelling his tickets and beating him is to demostrate their loyalty to the garhmen hoping to get a pat of approval on the head and future benefits...

I believe he is being set up. If he was banned from the event. Why is Amos at the event?

Weird. Another bullshit reporting.

SPF said in response to Mothership's queries that it received a call for assistance at about 2:15pm on May 9.

"Upon arrival, officers established that a 27-year-old male subject was assaulted by an 18-year-old male subject," SPF said.

Yee sustained minor injuries.

The 18-year-old man was arrested for causing public nuisance.

Police investigations are ongoing

Not so sure if ban can be legally enforced unless there is a restraining order from the court.
