A 31-year-old former air steward was sentenced to four months and two weeks’ jail on May 4 after pleading guilty to one count of voyeurism for filming his colleague topless without her consent. The offender, Goh Choon Sian, is a Malaysian who had worked for a major airline.
The court heard that Goh got to know the 28-year-old victim after a training event in 2024. On the night of Nov 29, 2024, they met for food and drinks in the Tanjong Pagar area before returning to his home the next morning.
After reaching his bedroom at about 7.30am, the woman, who was tired and intoxicated, fell asleep on his bed. While she was asleep, Goh pulled down her clothes and used his phone to record two videos of her topless. She woke up while he was filming the second clip and confronted him. He then deleted the videos at her request.
The woman later told Goh’s sister and brother-in-law, who were in the same house, before leaving and making a police report that same day. Prosecutors said the act was intrusive and involved some breach of trust because the pair were colleagues.
The defence said Goh had since lost his job with the airline and described the offence as a brief lapse in judgment, but the court still imposed a custodial sentence. Under the law, voyeurism carries a penalty of up to two years’ jail, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.
