Saw a xiaomi model s40c $188

For small house, is it better to use manual vacuum cleaner or manual sweeping or robot?

For now uncle using both manual sweep and manual vacuum as a form of exercise.

Unless your house is clutter free, dont buy a robot vacuum cleaner. Too many obstructing things for the robot to do a proper job...

Robot vacuum cleaners use navigation and coverage algorithms—basically math and sensors working together—to decide where to move, avoid obstacles, and clean efficiently without missing spots.
There are 3 main levels, from simple to advanced:
1. Random bounce algorithm (basic models)
This is the simplest.
How it works:
Moves forward until it hits something
Turns at a random angle
Continues moving
Repeats until battery is low
Result:
Eventually covers most areas, but inefficient
May miss spots or clean same area many times
Example behavior:
Zig-zag randomly
Bounce off walls and furniture
Pros:
Cheap
Simple
Cons:
Slow
No memory of where it cleaned
2. Pattern-based algorithm (systematic cleaning)
More advanced models clean in planned patterns, like:
Straight lines (back-and-forth)
Spiral patterns
Edge-following along walls
How it works:
Uses wheel sensors, gyroscope, and basic mapping
Tracks distance moved
Covers area in rows
Result:
Faster than random
More complete coverage
3. SLAM algorithm (most advanced — used in modern robots)
This is the smartest system. SLAM = Simultaneous Localization And Mapping
What it does:
Creates a map of your home
Knows its exact location
Plans optimal cleaning path
Avoids obstacles intelligently
Uses sensors like:
LiDAR (laser scanning)
Camera
Infrared sensors
Gyroscope
Wheel encoders
Steps:
Scan room
Create digital map
Divide into sections
Clean in efficient rows
Remember cleaned areas
Return to charging dock automatically
Example of SLAM cleaning pattern:
Instead of random movement:

Nice straight lines, like mowing grass.
Real-world analogy
Think of 3 cleaners:
Random robot → blindfolded person walking randomly
Pattern robot → person cleaning row by row
SLAM robot → person with a floor plan and checklist
Additional smart features using algorithms:
Modern robots also use algorithms for:
Obstacle avoidance (avoid cables, furniture)
Room recognition
No-go zones
Carpet detection (increase suction)
Returning to dock when battery low
Resume cleaning where left off

If you're planning to buy one, I strongly recommend LiDAR SLAM type — much faster, cleaner, and less frustrating.
If you want, I can recommend the best robot vacuum models in Singapore based on your budget.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C belongs to the advanced SLAM-based navigation category of robot vacuums.
Here’s why:
Navigation Type
It uses LDS (laser) laser navigation, which scans the room in 360° to create a map of your space.
Xiaomi India
This kind of laser scanning is used in SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) systems, meaning the robot simultaneously builds a map and tracks its own position within it.
Gadgetspotr
The vacuum then plans efficient paths (often straight lines or “zig-zag” patterns) across each room to cover the floor systematically rather than moving randomly.
Xiaomi India
Features Indicative of SLAM
Because of the LDS navigation and mapping, the S40C supports:
Zoned cleaning and selected area cleaning — you can pick where to clean on the map.
Xiaomi India
Virtual walls / restricted areas — block off zones on your map.
Xiaomi India
Saved floor maps in the app, so it remembers your home layout over multiple runs.
Xiaomi India
What This Means in Terms of Algorithms
So the S40C uses a structured SLAM algorithm with laser navigation, which is considered: ✔ Advanced
✔ Systematic (not random)
✔ Efficient at coverage
This is the same general algorithm group used in mid-to-high-end robot vacuums, compared to the much simpler “random bounce” pattern in very cheap models.
Summary:
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C uses laser-based SLAM navigation and structured path planning — so it’s not a random robot, but a smart, map-aware robot vacuum.

I used dreame. Must keep it clean and dry after using.

Just buy n try.

Just buy n try.
Not expensive.

But what makes me thinking are
1. Then my manual vacuum cleaner wasted, quite new and powerful
2. Scare too complicated with app and unsure how to use.
3. Then becum lazy and doesn't move my ass
