Immediate 20% increase in tobacco excise duty across all tobacco products: Budget 2026

go increase lor how about a million dollars a pack? All my peers due to high and exhorbitant ciggs prices have all switched to vaping. This constant price increase is encouraging everyone to switch to vape. See how many vaping cases can garhmen catch lor... see how much manpower you have to check every single one at the customs lor...

Any idea what is the current tax %?
Only then we can count the actual increase in price.
As of February 12, 2026, Singapore has increased the tobacco excise duty by 20%, bringing the tax to 58.9 cents per stick of cigarette, up from 49.1 cents. This 20% increase, announced in the Budget 2026, aims to discourage consumption. A 20-stick pack now faces a higher, substantial tax, with average prices rising to approximately S$17.74.
  • Tax Rate: 58.9 cents per stick (for cigarettes not exceeding 1g).
  • Additional Tax: For cigarettes exceeding 1g, an additional 58.9 cents is applied for every gram or part thereof.
  • Effective Date: Immediately from Feb 12, 2026.
  • Scope: The tax applies to all tobacco products, including cigars (now 58.9 cents/gram) and cigarette sticks.
  • Context: This follows a previous 15% increase in 2023.

If the Govt tax so much on cigarettes, at least build aircon smoking places all over SG, like 7-11
They can smoke comfortable inside, with vending machine for drinks & maybe pay-per-use toilet too.

Japan has smoking room in restaurant
I think the only public aircon place in Singapore that smokers can exhaust their fumes is in the two casinos. All other public aircon environments is 不可以. Though I have a friend who has an office in one of those old office building in Chinatown. He smokes in his own office room.
