Anyone noticed many items have ridiculous prices for this CNY?
GeneralLike basic goodies can be more than $15-20.
I even saw some paper CNY decorations... It looks very basic and obviously imported from China or something, and they're selling for $8-10 per piece.
Some of my friends even told me hair salons have started "CNY surcharge" since 2 weeks ago. Also, this "CNY surcharge" used to be like $2-3 in the past. But now some are charging more than $5!
Like, seriously... wtf?!
In other countries, when festive seasons are around the corner, they give discounts and promotions to spread the cheer. But in SG, it seems like people use it as an excuse to jack up prices due to 'demand' instead. lol
edit: and, if you all remember, this 'CNY surcharge' used to happen like 2 weeks before CNY. Then it became 3 weeks before CNY. Now it has become 1 month before CNY!
edit 2: just to clarify... I can understand if businesses can't do big promos or discounts because of high overhead expenses (i.e: rental, utility bills, .etc). But to make such ridiculous surcharges is absolutely unacceptable. I know you could say, "Not happy? Then don't buy lor!" but this is just disgusting greed that they're doing without social conscience. And, no, I'm not being self-entitled here.. .But it is business practices like this that makes cost of living worse. I've also read from others that some florist shops are jacking up roses by 2-4 fold in anticipation of Valentine's Day, and any delivery on that particular day is worse.
