the whole issue is the reserved seat which creates unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings. youngsters feel they are equally entitled to these seats since it's not meant to be mandatory while old folks think they are automatically entitled to it. we shouldn't have the so called reserved seats in the first place. passengers should be reminded to be gracious when they encounter an older person or anyone with special needs but it should not give the impression that it's reserved for certain categories of people. that way, oldies who are given the seats by gracious willing passengers would feel more appreciation and there would also be no resentment if no ones gave up their seats.

If the objective was grace, this was a spectacularly bad design. We institutionalised politeness, bureaucratised kindness, and then acted surprised when it collapsed into entitlement on one side and resentment on the other.

Abolish the fiction. Remove the “reserved” label. Remind people to be humane, not obedient. Let seats be given, not demanded; received with gratitude, not expectation. That way, courtesy regains its moral value, and public transport stops doubling as a low-budget ethics examination.

What's wrong with these self-entitled people?
If need the seat, go take a taxi. It is not as only you pay for the seat to be reserved.
Anyone can volunteerily give their seats like old days for the old, the young. There is no need to specify a particular seat and at times
under-utilised the seat even though tired people can take it.

Taking the corner seat is NOT an offence. Giving up the seat to another is a show of GRACE. There is simply no reason for the Ah Pek to take a photo of a young girl just because she sat on a seat which she paid for like any other commuters. Using the photo
Let's shame the bastard old fart who disgraced the girl. He is so bitter to expose the girl online, she don't deserve such humiliation.

People tired after studying/working a long day, cannot sit down?
SMRT should place tis LJ Ah Lau face on all the train doors n include these words... " if you want someone to give up the seat for you, do be polite and courteous, else GGDF ! "

Using the photo to shame her online especially when she is in her uniform makes her highly identifiable. The father should protect her daughter and report the Ah Pek.
