CARACAS: President Donald Trump said on Saturday (Jan 3) that US forces had captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro after launching a "large scale strike" on the South American country.

"The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

Trump also said he would give a news conference at 11am local time (12am Singapore time) at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

In response, Venezuela said in a statement it rejected the "military aggression" by the United States.

Attacks took place in the capital of Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La ‌Guaira, the statement said, ‌prompting the country's government to declare a national emergency and call on ‌social and political forces to "activate mobilisation plans".

"The objective of this attack is none other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals, attempting to break the nation’s political independence by force. They will not succeed," the statement added.

At least seven explosions and low-flying aircraft were heard around 2am local time (2pm, Singapore time) on Saturday in Caracas.

It was not immediately clear what was behind the explosions. Venezuela’s government, the Pentagon and White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

However, a US official told Reuters early on Saturday that the US is carrying out strikes inside Venezuela. The official, who was speaking on the ‌condition of anonymity, did not provide details.

Smoke could be seen rising from the hangar of a military base in Caracas. Another military installation in the capital was without power.

The Pentagon referred questions to the White House, which declined to comment.

The Venezuelan government in its statement said the goal of the attack is for the United States to take possession of the country's oil and minerals. It added that the United States "will not succeed" in taking the resources.

The US has made a major military buildup in the region, including an aircraft carrier, warships and advanced fighter jets stationed in the Caribbean.

Trump has sought a "blockade" of Venezuelan oil, expanded sanctions against the Maduro government and staged more than two dozen strikes on vessels the US alleges were involved in trafficking drugs in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea.

Last week, Trump said the United States had hit an area in Venezuela where boats are loaded with drugs, marking the first known time Washington has carried out land operations in Venezuela since the pressure campaign began.

He did not say whether those strikes were carried out by the CIA or not. Other media outlets have reported that the spy agency was behind them.

Trump has accused Venezuela of flooding the US with drugs, and his administration has for months been bombing boats originating in South America that it alleges were carrying drugs. Many nations have condemned the attacks as extrajudicial killings and Maduro's government has always denied any involvement with drug trafficking.

The Venezuelan government has strongly denied these claims
Beko statement no trust one

So the US has once again decided to effect a regime change in a foreign country and install a puppet government. It has not worked in Afghanistan and Iraq, it will not work now. More US troops will die, but it's ok because Trump is a peaceful president.

If, as claimed, the US has sent Delta Force into the heart of the Venezuelan capital and extracted the sitting president, along with his wife, it is unlike anything we have seen before.

The closest comparison would be the capture of Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega, also by special forces, in 1989.

Both men had recently claimed victory in disputed elections, both had been accused by the US of involvement in drug trafficking and both had been preceded by significant US military build-up.

But Noriega's capture followed a short, decisive, war between the two countries, in which Panamanian forces were quickly overwhelmed.

He had taken refuge in the Vatican embassy, where he remained for 11 days.

Eventually Noriega was persuaded to leave after the use of “psychological warfare” - specifically the constant playing of loud rock music, including The Clash, Van Halen and U2.

He was taken back to the US, where he was convicted of drugs offences.

Details of the operation to capture Nicholas Maduro are yet to emerge, but it seems to have been an operation even more ambitious in its scope - succeeding in extracting the President and his wife without the use of conventional ground forces.

His fate is unclear, but one would imagine it will end in a US prison.

how cum they have no balls to go capture fatty kim?
Ever tried an attempt to assassinate bui Kim in 2014 with the same unit carried out on Osama, but failed even before reaching the shore and target and had to abandon the mission?
