Jo Ann Kuek's letter highlighted issues such as teacher burnout, excessive admin duties and large class sizes have been heard for decades and remain largely unaddressed with no clear plans or concrete measures for improvement. Our ministers are merely sweeping these complaints under the rug. Who besides the teachers suffer? Our students of course!
The findings from the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey 2024, found that S'pore teachers work longer hours than the OECD average. Proposed measures like WFH days or flexibility to leave early are impractical, since most teachers have classes, meetings or school activities that require them to be physically present.
