'Singapore is not your land', says Chinese national in heated exchange with Singaporean

Netizens said that the incident was not representative of all Chinese nationals.

A video of a heated confrontation between a Chinese national and a Singaporean outside a landed property, with the pair exchanging inflammatory remarks, has raised the ire of netizens.

On 28 Oct, user @New_Teacher_2815 shared the clip, which shows a Chinese national filming the confrontation while scolding the family behind the camera.

"Singapore is not your land," the Chinese national says in Mandarin during the heated argument, calling the family "trash".

"Okay, then don't stay in Singapore," the Singaporean responds, to which the woman replies that it is her right to do so.

Netizens outraged

Some netizens called the situation "ironic" and "upsetting", urging the family to report the incident to authorities.

One commenter noted that most Singaporean Chinese identify more strongly with their nationality than their ethnicity, which may come across as offensive to some Chinese nationals.

"I'm just so upset. For her to have the audacity to tell us off," one user said.

Other netizens said that the incident was not representative of all Chinese nationals, adding that such incidents paint a bad picture for Chinese nationals.

"You should see how brutal some of them are and can be against their own kind that embarrass them abroad," another commented.
