Owing to the Govt's policy of inviting the ultra-wealthy to set up family offices in SG and buying up freehold land, rents have gone through the roof, so retailers operating brick and mortar stores have no choice, but to jack up their prices. Online shopping with relatively cheap overseas delivery charges make this a cost effective way to order goods from our laptops; imagine worldwide selections at our finger tips.

You're feeling the pinch (punch?) because the PAP technocrats are always upping the protection money that needs to be paid for doing business.

A nation of sheep deserves a government of wolves.

LKY's govt used strict laws, such as the ISD to detain political opponents and suppress dissent. Critics point out that this created a climate of fear and discouraged S'poreans from openly questioning the ruling PAP. Subsequent PMs got us where they wanted: like sheep kept in a barn.
