Things change fast, and I’m planning a trip soon, so any updated tips would be great. Also wondering if anyone had luck using apps like HappyCow over there?

I stayed in that area recently and found a small guesthouse run by a local Hui family—they were super accommodating with halal meals. If you're into wellness stuff too, I noticed a few places offering juice fasting retreats, which seemed pretty popular with the health-conscious crowd. Could be a nice combo with the peaceful vibe of Dali.

Don’t go up there. They mind your color plus language can’t communicate and u can’t make them laugh. They prefer Chinese.
