There is a growing rodent problem in S'pore with many stallholders admitting that it is impossible for hawker centres and coffee shops to have no rats. Hawkers I have spoken to claim that they make their stalls as clean as possible, but rats have been seen running on the beams and around the premises. They appear after the lights are switched off, but seldom seen when there are people around. New York City has an estimated 5 times the number of rodents compared to their population of 8 million people, while S'pore has more than 6 million residents in a land area that is significantly smaller. Imagine how many rats we have in hiding during the day.
