BMT recruits taking the oath of allegiance. Do you still remember the day when you took yours?

During my time, we were given a slip of paper and were required to read from it. I just mumbled something and moved my mouth. So it was ok for me to keng all the way since I had effectively not taken the oath.

moi remember that day moi go report at CMPB at demsey road alone .... nobody with moi, just moi alone go .... the oat oso taken there.

nothing to be proud of.

9 out of 10 regular soldiers also geng.

I lost my respect for uniformed service after I was enlisted.

I got goose bump and felt patriotic and cried in my heart during the oath taking .
But very fast this patriotism subsided within a day, starting from the barang collection point, and I knew I was in hell.
This time I cried within my heart, but in the opposite manner of the oath taking.

Yes, but nobody back in the day recorded videos of this cringe ceremony.

The only important thing is your pink IC gets confiscated and is replaced by the SAF 11B card, which uses a shitty photo taken at CMPB during your enlistment.

I still remember clearly a video we were made to watch during a visit to MINDEF (I think) during our sec. 4 days. In the video, there was this bloke who said, "NS? Don't waste my time lah!". Those words resonated with me throughout NS, reservist and till this very day.
