French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo may have gone overboard in its denigration of Muslims. However, other religions such as Christianity and Judaism, were not spared from this publication's disparaging satire either. Why then is the level of tolerance among Muslims so low? Why do these terrorists have so little abhorrence against committing murder to avenge a perceived wrong? Killing is a heinous crime against humanity, and no rationalisation can be offered for the wanton taking of human life.

Much as Europe values its freedom of expression, its composition of citizens has changed immensely owing to its liberal immigration policies. The mass influx of Muslim immigrants, mainly from North Africa - who do not cherish the same fundamental rights and freedoms - must be taken into account. These new immigrants must ultimately be assimilated and develop tolerance to opposing views. If these people wish to hold onto their intolerant ideas, then they should elect to stay put in North Africa or wherever they came from, instead of expecting the majority in their host countries to subscribe to their narrow-minded ways.
