1. Mdm Gan is a Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has heavy RESPONSIBLITIES, EVERY single minute of the day, unlike most others whom thankfully only work 8hrs/day, 5days a week, or some whom whom took on gig jobs, whereby work hrs are determined by themselves for the effort they put in, or retirees whom have all the time in the World, after yrs of hard work to survive.

As a Minister, her hours are meticulously measured for performance to serve our 5 million inhabitants here in Singapore, and at times, even beyond the mere 8hrs/day of work, as they often have to work & even socialize in order to motivate and lead our country......


2. The fault lays NOT with her, but WITH HER SECRETARY, whose role was to keep the boss informed. Her secretary SHOULD HAD made efforts to know WHO are the hosts of an event, so that the boss should know who to greet first - a CRITICAL social etiquette, before others, depending on the situation, more so in this day and age of AI where information can be quickly gathered, such as names, photos, distinctive facial features. etc.....

Furthermore, in this era of COVID fears, more so with tens of thousands of COVID cases in our ASEAN region Thailand this month, with many holidaying and visiting such places, one would have to be very careful to not spread the virus.....


3. STILL, it is NOT her secretary's fault, as NO mortal is perfect, We ALL make mistakes to learn and progress.....

Since when there is a rule or tradition of needing to shake hand with host first?
Eg if we attend a wedding dinner and when we reach the banquet, and the host friend tried to shake hand with you, you can brush them aside and lookout for the host first?

The insignificant nobody respects your opinion. As explained in my post, it depends on the situation. It's about social graces & social etiquette. Such are not laws that one can sue another over. It is only merely a matter of respect - offered and gained...

Do allow me to share an experience...

I was once invited to meet up with a strong and upcoming local SME for discussions over financial investments for their expansion. I did my my homework, all facts and figures, not pics - work out their credentials, their financial records, etc. Based upon my studies, it seem a worthwhile investments, but only further details needed to be worked out for win-win solutions.

I drove to their factory, was verified by the security guards at the gate, and proceeded to park my car at the vast factory compound where there were many parking lots. However, I saw an entourage at the office building main entrance, who were waving at me, probably that they were informed of my car type and car plate number. Not to offend them, I drove into the office building entrance driveway.

A man in T-shirt and jeans opened my car door, smiled and offered his hands to shake my hands as welcome. Pleasantly surprised, I shook his hands, smiled and thank him, assuming him to be the company car valet whom will park the car for visitors, and proceeded to seek out for someone whom I thought would be the host, probably in a suit as I was dressed in, found him.....shook his hands and exchanged pleasantries.....

It was a mistake, an embarrassing one, to me, to the one I thought was the host, to the host, and to the entourage of office workers....Because the one I exchanged pleasantries was the secretary to his boss - the host - the one in T-shirt and jeans......

However, and fortunately, NO offence was taken by anyone, as everyone deemed a pure misunderstanding, and FURTHERMORE, the SME boss needed me more than I needed him - it's about finances that he required, thus that incident was quickly smoothed over, and fruitful financial discussions were held....


The point is - in the military, the host would wear his rank on his uniform and would never be mistaken for a General Duties serviceman. In the past, often executives would be neatly dressed and if there were many of such in an entourage, one will have to just take a chance if not INFORMED before hand who is the host. However, in this era, thanks to FaceBook & Apple Bosses, who wear casual clothes, it became more difficult to follow social etiquette of RESPECT to hosts, more so in events where one is NOT INFORMED of who is actually the host......

In your case, you did shake the hands of the one you thought was a valet, which was the right thing to do mah.
But in Gan situation, she didn't wanted to shake woh. That's very rude.

ULTIMATELY, mis-understandings will happen, even daily, to each and everyone of us mortal beings, as no mortal is PERFECT, for sure most certainly the insignificant nobody me which is not perfect or faultless...

Thus, there is no NEED to create a mountain out of a mole hill incident, for personal or even greed filled or misguided hate filled political purposes.

What is MORE critical after when such misunderstandings happened, acknowledged, apologized-even by both parties, IS to correct mistakes to progress and evolve...... find the SOLUTIONS or at least the discussions by leaders of organizations for such necessary visits deemed important for Leaders of State to attend, to find a better path forward, which are MORE CRITICAL, than mere faux pas incidents that are used for nefarious purposes.....

Do not be misguided, or misused by so called 'public opinion' - view of the loud but only few out of 7 billion Humankind, or twisted perceptions by the few as each have a mind of their own based upon gifted Free Will at birth, born out of love, responsibilities and Civilizational upbringing....

Thanks Mdm Coffee Soh, for your efforts to show the other side of the coin, as each sides do have a perspective to tell, for others to be informed and make right decisions.

Ultimately, community service by Elected legislators is part of the job and responsibilities. Misunderstandings will occur from time to time, but in the end, WHAT MATTERS more are the RESULTS for efforts put in, over CRITICAL ISSUES than mere faux pas episodes that NO mortal can claim perfection and faultless, had NEVER experienced such, as such Humans do not exists in this World....

It is comprehensible that EACH mortal has their own ideals of perfection, dreams, desires, etc, but in reality, our ancestors, Humanity broke out from the chains of barbaric bondage to give us our todays, not only just and fair laws for a society to progress and evolve, but also self regulated social norms and social etiquette...

Such will never be acceptable to the mere selfish and peasant descendants, whom will never look beyond the length of their noses. NOBILITY is NOT born, but acquired thru solid foundation of family and wholesome education, which peasants lacked due to their choices or mental aptitude, and thus the chaos they bring to progress and evolution.

In the past, the nobility had such opportunities, often from the back of hard working peasants whose only desire is to survive with their meagre small plots of farm land and not accept mere SLIGHTS easily, often used and abused by others whom have far nefarious gains, to be scammed, either financially or politically....

Nobles born, whom were free from such worries, were taught since birth and given the task to leadership, to look BEYOND mere small plots of peasant lands, but to the Nation itself as well as trade, civility, etc of other Nations sharing our World to derive better outcomes for everyone, and at times some did it selfishly, but many more did it from the privileges that they learnt, to progress and evolve Humanity for our todays.

Nobility can be achieved by EVERY Earth born, but is NOT an entitlement, It has to be earned. It takes education and experiences in life to achieve such, to pass on to the next innocent generations, to come, and to survive, to build a better tomorrow as our ancestors and forefathers had done for our todays....and the CRITICAL framework are COMPROMISES -NONE will get to eat the cake alone.

It will be shared, difficult or painful due to circumstances, to ignore issues let alone faux pas, but we must, to leave NONE hungry behind, including future innocent generations to come...

Just look at their enthusiasm, their energy, their joys, their physical and mental resilience as kids, going to school, learning, playing, etc - their very UNCONDITIONAL love and trust in us adults that we adults can find NOWHERE ELSE on Earth....how can we let them down....? WE too were once innocent kids.....


We NEED each other, together to accept our flaws, to acknowledge such, correct such to progress and evolve, to build a better civilization than the one that our ancestors and forefathers had fought so hard, so hard for, for our todays...
