Singaporeans Have Spoken — And We Deserve What’s Coming

Lala move will be forced to quit the scene and make way for shalomp movers, because one of the newly minted pappie MPs owns shalomp.
Politicians start to do business? Conflicts of interest gao gao. Like China using to have national companies.

Weird right?
Everyday people going to work has to go same way, reaching office at required timing,. So by putting ERP, will it get diverted? It will make peoples commuting hard only.
Also the expressways are supposed to ease traffic. So, what has done to ease congestion? Increase supply of cars on the same road obviously will have traffic jam.

The desired impact is highly case specific, and relies on several factors such as the price of the toll to the affected road user, the availability of alternative routes and modes of public transport as well as on the preferences of drivers.

If can lower traffic condition in real world, we will not have congestion in peak hours now

This is a paradox in World Smartest Nation?

Bearing in mind that the price of a COE is astronomical, and grants the holder use of a car for only 10 years, any driver will seek to maximise its usage, to obtain a better return on this massive financial outlay by driving daily to the office.

COE price to 90% maybe be astronomical value

But to true Elities, this is just a peanut mah

Precisely for car owners paying ridiculous coe to be on the road, surely must fully utilise the car. Hence govt is not making car owners to use their car efficiently.
On the other hand, in their rental to hawkers , they want their stall being fully utilised & for hawkers to operate 24 hours.

The question that the LTA should ask is where do these road users go during peak hours to get to work? Most vehicle owners will consider themselves worse off when paying more for something without any perceived value-add such as lighter traffic and arriving at their destination faster.

Does it look like LTA is working for road users that pay not only road tax but also coe to pay their salary? Do they even care where these road users can go to during peak hours after 65% majority gave the green light to continue doing what they had been doing?
Their rice bowl governed by group of tax collectors & huge project spenders, not tax payers.

In reality, the implementation of ERP on certain roads merely shifts vehicles to non-priced roads, thereby having little effect on overall congestion. This hardly solves our nation’s road congestion problems.

This shift actually caused road users to spend more time on roads laden with traffic lights & make working people spend more time on the road, less time to rest. That's looks like the intention.

Cannot fight the system but can target individuals. There are a few deadwood to target - Chee Hong Tat and Ng Chee Meng for a start. Paying them is a waste of our tax dollars. Incompetent fools, yet Lawrence Wong kept them on. Shows that Lawrence Wong may not be competent himself.

the wisest way of LTA is to tax the car owners the moment they start to use the road regardless of priced or non priced road.
Tax the car owners based on the mileage they travelled, just like our water and electricity meters.

Agree.

If you want to control traffic congestion, tax usage, not ownership. That way people can still own cars at affordable prices and use them on non-working days or for occasions where public transport might not be practical or available (many places are still not served by bus or MRT).

Our high petrol prices are already doing part of the job; a nation-wide ERP system covering all major roads would be good way to tax usage.

A flat mileage-based tax would affect drivers who rely heavily on their cars for essential purposes, whether they use congested roads or not. A car owner living in a less accessible area or needing to travel long distances for work and ferry children or elderly parents, will face a higher tax burden than someone who mainly drives short distances along congested roads.

That's we should get rid of the COE, which taxes ownership. Make cars affordable, like in many other countries (a Toyota Corolla costs only $22,000 in Japan).

Tax usage instead.

S'pore will end up as one big carpark. Knowing the hoi polloi, once they get their hands on a cheap car, they will drive it everywhere just to show to others that they are car owners. Hirers of PHVs and car sharing are dying to peel off those low SES decals and painted-on words to deceive others that they are car owners too.
