Why Paul Tambayh's vote share in a SMC he contested previous dropped but Dr Chee's increased in a SMC he never contested before?

Most residents want their MPs to look after their estate well to enhance the value of their HDB flats. They don't understand that we are actually voting for legislators in Parliament to make laws, raise issues and vote on bills. To them, the MP is like a highly paid estate manager - so if the MP is hardworking like LEH, they'll get the vote. PT is involved in teaching, doing research, seeing patients - this limits his ground work. He spends a few hours every Tue with the residents - probably not enough.
The irony is stark indeed. Dr Tambyah's global standing would likely have made him a Minister of Health elsewhere. However, in his own country - the very place he felt compelled to serve - he was not even elected when he clearly outshone his far less illustrious opponent. The residents of Bukit Panjang voted for the PAP - not their lacklustre candidate.

9 out of 10, if you ask them if they understand what a party whip is, they will look at you and give you that WTF look ? :o-o:
Up to 65% of voters asked to be whipped by the PAP for another 5 years. We could have voted 30% of the Opposition into Parliament to be a more effective check and balance to an authoritarian govt, but we chose not to.

What is the point of your PAP MP speaking for you if they cannot vote against the wishes of the Party ? It's only chui gong lanpar song.

TCB was the only one who dared to abstain from voting. Even TCD didn't dare to vote against the Party whip.
Hence the need for that 1/3 oppo target in Parliament to act as a check on the PAP.

Groupthink is so entrenched in the SG Parliament that MPs feel compelled to prioritise the party line to maintain unity and avoid potential repercussions from deviating from it. This overshadows the specific needs and concerns raised by the MPs' residents. Too bad 65% of voters decided to sign away their freedom to an authoritarian govt that has a history of passing self-serving policies that heap hardship on the general populace.

Bukit Panjang SMC shows that swing voters exist and good MPs get more votes

Politics
Bukit Panjang SMC in this GE is basically a rematch of what happened in 2020. We have the same candidates, Liang Eng Hwa vs Paul Tambyah, same boundaries, and no new housing.

In 2020, LEH and PT are both new to the SMC and basically blank canvases. People vote based on what they know about the party and what they hear about the candidates. In the end, it was a 54/46 split in favour of PAP.

In 2025, PT is basically still the same guy that he was while LEH is also the same guy but with 5 years as MP to prove himself. I don't want to shill what he has done (you can google if you want to know) but he has been active on the ground and in parliament. He has shown himself to be a good MP in many people's eyes which might be why he got an 8% swing in votes.

If say hypothetically PAP fielded a new/unlikeable candidate (eg. Marshall Lim) against PT, there's a good chance the seat would go to SDP.

TLDR: The quality of PAP candidates matter too, good ones get rewarded with votes while new or rubbish candidates risk losing their seat.

If the people never gave PT a chance & vote him in, they will never get to see how he perform for the next 5 years.
If PT is never voted in, not even once, forever PT will have nothing to show the Public that he is actually capable.
Draw example from SK GRC, the Resident voted WP & realise their estate is not in shambles, they continue support WP

Agree. I always hear people say that opposition candidates are not capable, so I tell them: if you don't vote them in, how do you know they cannot do the job well? Vote them in, give them a chance, 5 years later you can kick them out if they screw up.

Scaremongering by the PAP was effective in Bukit Panjang, whose residents made a flight to safety, but played into the hands of the party which will sodomise them over the next 5 years.

The people who keep saying opposition candidates [are not capable] are just shy to admit that they are in fact PAP voters. So they choose to run down the opposition voters to hide their real identities.

For every decision, there are always a good reason and a real reason. The shy PAP voters are just giving what they think is a good reason.

Shy PAP voters love to make friends with opposition supporters. The reason is simple. When shy PAP voters tio bullied by PAP policies, they can only seek solace in opposition voters who will give PAP a verbal fuck that will somehow ease the pain in the assholes of these shy PAP voters.

My ex-mentor is a good example.

The problem is the 65% have given the PAP another 5 years to sodomise 100% of S'poreans.

Your ex mentor Ownself fuck ownself then blame others for fucking her.
She came here pretending to be a oppie supporter and unfortunately caught by me, as I was closely monitoring her actions back then. Without my close monitoring she could have passed off as a oppie supporter.

After that she seek solace here to ease her painful cb.

Opposition supporters seek comfort in opposition supporters is 天经地义 because they both voted for oppositions.

The shy PAP voters should not pretend to be opposition sympathizers and seek solace in opposition camps when their assholes are bleeding from PAP relentless pounding. However, when it's time to decide to fuck or to get fuck, they run down oppositions and say opposition candidates are not capable.

Proverbs 26:11 states, "As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly"

There could be a few reasons. Dr Tambyah, being a smart guy, identified one of the reasons. 2020 was a covid election, and he, being well known as a respected specialist in infectious diseases, was in the news during that time, giving good advice while remaining calm.

Other reasons could be because the PAP candidate was hardworking and well-liked, he worked and walked the ground, he appeared to be humble and unassuming even though he had a high profile job as a banker. There could also have been some sympathy votes because he took a few months off for cancer treatment, and was back doing his rounds after those few months.

The last reason and I welcome anyone who followed Dr Tambyah on facebook or twitter to comment, because I didn't, is that perhaps (and I emphasize I do not have any knowledge of this), he didn't work and walk the ground at Bukit Panjang enough. That could have been the difference between him and Dr Chee, who from his facebook entries, did appear in Bukit Batok a lot in the past 5 years, and perhaps the Sembawang West voters also noticed that. :coffee:

Aiyah.. Paul Tambyah is simply too softspoken and not fiery enough in his speech lah. If he can speak like Dr Chee, he would have won in last GE.

In fact the moment he speaks, I already want to fall into sleep already, how to awaken the kumgong Sinkies to vote for him? LOL

If Prof Paul Tambyah was more practical and greedy, he would have joined the PAP or at least towed the line and become SG's Health Minister. Ong Ye Kung is completely outclassed by Dr Tambyah.

Paul Tambyah was not confident himself during an interview. He said PAP gave the residents a lot of ice creams, eggs, labubu and whatnots but SDP had nothing to give but only wanted to speak up for the people in parliament. It proves the point that sinkies are siao tum. Even one dollar can also buy votes from them.

It's the usual trick to appeal to human nature to lure swing voters.

From the looks of it under current PAP-controlled electoral rules, it will take at least another 100 years or an asteroid strike for a Gov change, LOL.

Materialism triumphs in red dot.

The PAP has read the ground well. They know that the people (voters) would be grateful to a receive a wheelchair (vouchers, ice cream, eggs etc.) from the same person (PAP) who broke their legs in the first place.
