Mr Sham a.k.a. Shanmugam stated, without proof, that the top 20% income earners "subsidized" the GST paid by the population.

Sinkies know that the eligibility criteria for GST relief are stringent. Click here to find out your eligibility.

Therefore the GST paid by the majority of the population is not "subsidized" by the top 20% income earners.

Mr Sham, being a ministar of the current caretaker gabrament ("caretaker government" because Parleement has been dissolved to make way for the 14th general election), has at his disposal big data and AI tools to come up with proof of his assertion. His proof will be subject to examination by Sinkies and people all over the world. (Note: Compared to 1965, there are currently many Sinkies with at least a master's degree in economics. They will be able to analyze if Mr Sham's proof is credible or just bullshit. Moreover we are living in the digital age and Nobel Prize winners in economics in other parts of the world will scrutinize his "proof" too.)

P.S. #1: A few months ago, on his Facebook page, Mr Sham reposted Ben Leong Wing Lup's comments on GST and inflation. Do note that Ben Leong isn't an economist by training (neither does he have a bachelor's degree in economics) and yet he claims to be a know-all about things pertaining to economics. You can read his biodata and see his fcukface by clicking here.

P.S. #2: The fact that Mr Sham endorses Ben Leong's post shows the former to be completely clueless about how economics work. Both he and Ben Leong are the ridicule of Sinkapoor.

GST hike implemented with 'great care', opposition ignored facts to maximise votes: PM Wong

Quotes from the newspaper

"Great care was taken in implementing the goods and services tax (GST) hike so that Singaporeans who are less well off pay less than the 9 per cent rate, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong."

"The permanent GST vouchers ensure that lower- and middle-income Singaporeans pay less than the headline GST rate, PM Wong noted."

To: Lawless Wong

(A) What's your definition of "lower- and middle-income Singaporeans"?

(B) Where's your solid proof that lower- and middle-income Sinkies pay less than 9% GST? In the absence of such proof, what you said are just lies.

common sense mah.....high earners spend more, buy more expensive stuff, logically pay more GST.
but he conveniently forget, these high earners may not need to spend here in SG.

So the GST paid by these high-income earners subsidize the majority of Sinkie's GST payments?

My neighbor's teenage children went to Kopitiam and Koufu the other day and their receipts stated that they paid 9% GST.
