The tariffs seem to have worked very well for Europe so why won't they work for the USA?

I think Europe success was due to Germany. It's the only country holding up the EU. The rest are basket cases.
And germany's success was due to availability of cheap Russian gas.

Have you forgotten the violent clashes between the PLO and the Jordanian army in 1970 known as "Black September"? Jordan saw the PLO's growing power and autonomy within its borders as a threat to its stability and expelled the Palestinians. This significantly impacted trust between Jordan and the Palestinian movement.

In the past, some Palestinian militant groups operating from these neighbouring Arab countries triggered Israeli retaliations, leading to instability and conflict within the host nations' borders. This created security concerns for Egypt, Syria and Jordan.

Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Gulf Arab states, Egypt were all created after the collapse of the ottoman Empire by the british and French. They are all barely one hundred years old. The dynamics of the region has not settled.
The family of the king of Jordan was originally from Mecca. They were suppose to rule both Arabia and Jordan but the Brits played them out. Gave Arabia to the Al Sauds. And other entities to local warlords such as Emirates, Oman, Qatar,.....
King of Jordan family being supported by the US. Otherwise it would be overthrown as they are not from the region.
