鸡同鸭讲 (jī tóng yā jiǎng) means "like a chicken talking to a duck.". Just like the literal meaning, it is impossible for a chicken and a duck to have an understandable conversation. It is often used in reference to individuals who are having difficulty communicating with each other. It's as if they were speaking in two different languages. You can say that talking to the opposite sex is sometimes like 鸡同鸭讲. Or you can also use it as this: I want to learn Chinese before traveling to China, otherwise the tour guide will be 鸡同鸭讲 to me.
