SINGAPORE: The chairman of Resorts World Sentosa has refuted media reports which quoted him as saying on Tuesday that the Universal Studios theme park would be opened by the end of next week.

He also said authorities have yet to approve the casino licence.

Even so, Singapore's first integrated resort saw thousands of visitors on Wednesday at the opening of its four hotels.

The ribbon was cut at precisely 8.18 in the morning. Eight is seen as an auspicious number because it sounds like the Chinese word for prosperity.

When Genting announced that they would build a casino in JB, the Singapore government had no choice. If Genting could not win the bid in Singapore, they would concentrate their firepower in the JB casino.

But the current NO LICENSE for RW casino on Sentosa has nothing to do with that.

I beleive its more that the LIM family sold off ALL their shares in Genting Singapore to invest in MACAU with you know who.

The govt stepped and the agreement was rescinded. Gentings have always made a fool of this government. Its cruises ships have repeatedly breached gaming conditions, fined and warned but they can't be bothered. The fact that they hired the ex-ISD chief is telling. They have also hired the former IGP for Malaysia.

Genting know that Singapore is dependent on its revenue stream.

of 950m Gentings S'pore shares at 70c and three rights issues, the last one at 1.13.
