An Afghan slits his wife’s throat in Berlin. “In Germany the man has no value,” he says.
Berlin – Day 6 in the Pankow femicide trial. On April 29, 2022, Zohra (31) died on the street after 13 stab wounds and a throat cut.
Gul A. (42) is now facing the maximum penalty. The independent lifestyle of the mother of six offended him, according to the murder charge.
Gul A. breaks his silence – and presents himself as a victim:
“I’m illiterate. We fled the Taliban. They killed mother and two brothers. Shot me in the neck. That messed with my head. I’m gone with my wife and kids, what else are we left with?”
He sold a house and borrowed money for smugglers. “Instead of a big ship across the sea, it was just a rubber dinghy, we tied the baby twins to our life jackets.”
“My life in Germany was good and happy for a year and a half. We received 2,600 euros a month in our account, my wife had the bank card. We went to the German course, the children to school and daycare.”
“I ask what happens to all the money. She said it’s none of my business. Damn it, we came to Germany so the kids could go to school, but not in torn shoes! But the man has nothing to say in Germany. Why is it that the woman has value here and the man doesn’t? I came to Germany and here the woman doesn’t even give me money to buy something for the children? She sent the money to her parents who never helped us. I said: The government here gives us the money for the children. If you work yourself, you can send as much money as you want, but not the money from the children’s office!”
It happens almost every day: Femicide! Women are killed for being women!
“She’s staying with another man. I stayed alone with the children. In the morning she changed her clothes, took her bag and left. I never learned to cook, just worked. She didn’t even make breakfast anymore. She said: I don’t want to live with you anymore. I saw her with the other man. She claimed to the police that I hit her. But I haven’t. Her sister said to me: You have nothing to say here, in Germany the woman has the floor! My heart grew heavy. Who made these laws?”
“She didn’t want me or the kids. I spent so much money to bring us to Germany. She was with the other man. my heart bled I had pressure in my head. She abandoned her six children. Then she suddenly wanted to have the children. After having fun and letting off steam.”
