In my humble opinion, at least 10 or 15 (maybe even 20) million Americans voted for him and other Republican candidates two years ago (in 2020) simply because they trusted him and not because they are truly pro-Republican (in fact, many of them usually do not bother to vote for anyone); therefore, if he does not come back well before 2024, many millions of those pro-Trump voters would be very disappointed and conclude that Trump has betrayed them, which would cause any Republican candidate in any kind of election in 2024 (maybe even 2022, i.e. tomorrow) to receive significantly fewer votes; so I believe Trump is very well aware of this risk...
