Singapore Press Holding is "not" a state-own entity. We all know how much bullsh*t that is. Here is the real question. The burden of bailing out SPH. Should the taxpayers carry that burden? The PAP will be giving 180 million taxpayers dollars to fund a dying press. A total of 900 million in the next five years. What does that mean? It means that mainstream media is dying. Nobody needs them anymore. Nobody wants to invest in them. And yet, PAP wants to inject taxpayers' money to help them stay afloat. The question is why, why is PAP doing this? Firstly, jobs. Jobs of those mainstream media mouthpieces. Those so-called "journalists" are unethical, lack integrity, and have no future in the internet age. I consider them a class of disgraced individuals. They made the word journalism feels dirty. History will not be kind to the likes of them. They deserved to lose their jobs. When they do lose their jobs, they may turn rouge reporters. That is what PAP feared the most. I have no sympathy or compassion for those rancid journalists.
Secondly, the authority fears the truth. Remember, Singapore will never flood. It is called ponding. This type of narrative is absurd! Their insistence on control, manipulation, and deceit. That is the real reason why mainstream media is dying- they tried to blame it on the internet. They will get viewership no matter the platform- as long as they have journalistic integrity. If there is no viewership, there is no advertisement, and therefore no investment. They do not have what it takes to be honest. They do not have the integrity to report the news as it is. They can't separate journalism from politics. They missed their mark.
The people want the truth- no matter how ugly it is. People seek people who speak truth to power. That is why the off-brand, the independent media, digital reporters are more trusted than the mainstream media. Even in China, a corrupt totalitarian state, even in such a country, they have rouge reporters risking their lives trying to find out the truth during the initial stage of the Wuhan Pandemic.
The consequences of half-truths. The cowardice of journalists has led to the ultimate demise of the mainstream media. As of now, my trust in mainstream media is below the level of a Twitter post or Facebook(meta) post. The government should address this before investing 900 million taxpayer's dollars into a black hole. If they choose to be willfully ignorant, they will not just lose 900 million. They will further degrade the trust between people and the mainstream media. Ultimately, people will lose their confidence in our government. That price of being willfully ignorant is higher than what our government can afford.
