SHE had started piano lessons at a music school in Punggol Plaza three weeks ago and was already showing a flair for the keys.

But while on the way to her weekly class on Tuesday evening with her grandfather, a car ploughed into Zhao Lin Qian, killing the five-year-old instantly.

The pair were believed to have been jaywalking across the two-lane Punggol Field Road at about 8pm when she was hit.

There was a pedestrian crossing as well as an overheard bridge nearby, but they had not used either.

Lin Qian was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, said a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman.

Police said that a 27-year-old car salesman, who was at the wheel of the Subaru Impreza, has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.

Why is the Sales Man who drove the car kena arrested?

The report already stating the grandfather and the kid were jailwalking!

I initially have pity on the lost of the kid, but when I read that the grandfather claimed the car came very quickly and he can't do anything, it pissed me off. First, they jail walk and he let the grand daughter led the crossing. Certainly he has not given a thought on the Grand daughter's safety.

Should they have taken the pedestrian crossing nearby such thing would have been prevented.

apparently this elderly man came over from PRC, he is most likely to be unaware to our road conditions here.

try going to Geylang and you see those folks crossing roads like nobody's business. i'm only surprised no one is injured after such a long time, or no report was made? :confused::confused::confused:

The police action to arrest the driver only prove 2 things:

1) Don't mess with foreigners;
2) No accountability on part of pedestrians in case of road accidents;

It is no wonder so many pedestrians cross the road like they are kings.

As for Geylang, drivers are well aware of the lawlessness in the area and are extra careful. Pedestrians and Cyclist are really like riders from hell.

Seriously, those prc deserve it. The grandfather jolly well knows he is crossing a road. Even if he is to jaywalk, he should have the decency to look out for vehicles.

Nowadays when i drive and i see cyclists riding against the traffic, I will give them a friendly horn. I am really surprise lta/tp do nothing about these problems.

I have a suggestion to the govt. Other than to take a citizenship test for the pink ic, the foreigners must also go to the Road Safety School at east coast.
!&!!

There was once during midnight I was driving along bukit Panjang, trying to filter a zebra crossing.It was green light and I was travelling quite fast.From nowhere,a malay kid dashed out.I swerved and e braked.And fuck! he still gave me the cheeky smile as if nothing had happened:mad:

I am quite amazed at how people used the roads especially foreigners,for instance cycling against the traffic and negotiating a bend.whoa lan eh!Blangadeshi sitting by the road chichatting in Tuas area at night,
People crossing the expressway,CTE,ECP in the middle of the night,etc...

:rolleyes:

i remembered rather vividly that in the past, schools do teach the youngsters to look right, look left and then look right again, then raise the hands up to walk across zebra crossings. do they still do so now?

The FT cyclists are the worst... jam braked screeching and smoking once to avoid one... and bloody just after I had changed new tyres too :mad:

The pedestrians think that if a car hit them, the driver will sure be at fault. They have never thought of what consequence will be on them. If hit and die is still all right. The worst is paralyse for life. They will not only cause themselves to suffer, their family, the driver and the driver's family will also be in pain.

The fucking authority should start working on pedestrians or have their pay cut.

old uncle auntie.. how to climb up stairs to bridge... they force the parents to go work and ask grandpa to send their daughter to kindergarden..

u car drivers.. think u drive means own the road.. everyone go through theory lesson when taking license.. say check blidspot always..

now pedestrian cross. also never see.. i say should ban the driver and jail him.
he cause a poor little gal died.

But giving the benefit of the doubt... a car salesman behind the wheel of a car (maybe not WRX, also will pretend it is) is a sure recipe for disaster.
