decomposition in the whale's body is resulting in the ballooning of the whale's belly, and it will usually end up with a big bang, with all its intestines blown apart, then the carcass sinks to the bottom of the sea.

the birds are feasting on the whale as you see it, fresh sashimi the Japanese can't wait to lay their hands on, and nothing is gone to waste as the bottom feeders at the ocean floor will pick up the rest of the buffet when the carcass sinks later. :p:p:p
