MP Gan Siow Huang quarantined for past 2 weeks after daughters' close contact with Covid-19 case​

Member of Parliament (MP) Gan Siow Huang has written about her own quarantine experience, admitting that there were "anxious moments" as she waited it out at home.


The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower wrote in an Aug. 4 Facebook post that two of her daughters had been issued quarantine orders two weeks ago after they were deemed close contacts of a Covid-19 case.
Gan and her husband would have to be quarantined as well after they opted to have the girls serve their quarantine at home.
"There were anxious moments," wrote Gan.
"Whether my kids had indeed contracted the virus, as well as exams and lessons that were being affected plus having colleagues to cover for work that required physical attendance e.g. parliament."
Gan added that her youngest daughter — who did not have contact with a Covid-19 case — was required to stay elsewhere for the duration of the family's quarantine.

"I feel relieved"​

Restrictions on the family's movements were finally lifted last night (Aug. 3) after all had tested negative for Covid-19.
"The first thing I did was fetch my youngest daughter and hugged her. She was almost in tears," Gan wrote.
"I feel relieved that everyone is safe and well, and we can return to our normal lives, in the new normal."
The Marymount SMC MP also thanked the Ministry of Health's quarantine operations team and swabbers for their work, and encouraged those currently quarantined to "hang in there".

Recent surge in quarantines​

Singapore has seen a surge in its quarantine operations after the recent rise in locally-transmitted infections and the emergence of new Covid-19 clusters.
As of Monday (Aug. 2), there are about 20,000 people under quarantine, according to CNA. While quarantines can be served at government quarantine facilities, individuals may also serve their quarantine at home if their homes are found to be suitable.
The Straits Times reported that 10,000 people are under home quarantine, as of Aug. 1.
