Things always need to be viewed in the correct perspective.
India's death rate is only a fraction of the overall death rates in Europe and South America. Of course there will be spikes but just give it a couple of weeks and the rate will start to go down.
No disease ever infects 100% of the world. There are always those that are naturally immune. We have genetic diversity to thank for that.
When diseases have a high mortality rate they self limit because if the host dies the spread stops.
We most certainly have not stopped AIDS. The numbers continue to grow even in advanced countries with good education and health systems like Singapore. More than 300 cases are diagnosed annually and there are definitely more out there. Half a century has passed since the first case was discovered.
Worldwide it is estimated that almost half a million are dying of AIDS annually. That's 9/11 deaths repeated every year 166 times.
The only disease that mankind has ever eradicated is smallpox but it could be just a pause. Only the future will tell.
The irony of the situation is that nobody bothers about HIV deaths anymore because it is no longer newsworthy and that's what give you the impression that it is no longer a compelling issue.
