Three defendants between the ages of 21 and 27 are said to have beaten a man in a gateway in St. Georg last October – apparently because he disturbed them while they were praying.
At the start of the trial on Thursday before the Hamburg district court, the alleged victim, a 55-year-old man, described his view of things. Accordingly, he wanted to drive through his gateway entrance, where three young men were sitting and praying. “Somebody has to pass through and we have Corona,” he said to the Muslims. He also honked.
Beaten, kicked and spat at
Then the three men threw open the doors of his car and hit, kicked and spat at him. “The worst part was the spitting,” said the 55-year-old in court. The defendants said nothing about this.
One defendant was already on trial
One of them is a Salafist who has long been watched by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The now 24-year-old appeared in court three years ago. He had tried to travel to Syria with fellow believers and fight for the terrorist group “IS”. A judge called him a “typical threat” at the time. His own parents had turned to the police again and again because they had to watch helplessly as their son became more and more radical.
At that time he didn’t have to go to jail, he was given probation. Now he is in custody because of the flight risk.
