Sony phones are terrible, especially when it comes to photography. Trust me I've owned an Xperia once. There is a reason why sales have plunged since 2014.

Which is ironic, because Sony camera sensors are found in most smartphones. As Google Pixel phones have demonstrated, the quality of smartphone photography boils down to software (and AI) and has less to do with hardware. Sony still can't get the software/postprocessing right. Some speculate that it is internal sabotage by Sony's camera division, they don't want Sony phones to cannibalize the sales of entry-level Sony cameras.

If you are a Sony fanboy with money to burn, Xperia 1iii will be announced soon. It will retain the headphone jack. But it is very hard to find phone shops selling Xperia phones anymore. Even the Sony stores have now ignored them.

P.S: Taiwan and HK still have a sizeable group of Sony Xperia fanboys and fangirls. Expect more marketing/propaganda from those places. Look out for the traditional Chinese characters.

P.S #2: Hate Apple all you want, it still has the gold standard when it comes to video recording. Video recording on Android phones are a mixed bag.

P.S: #3: About two-thirds of smartphones in Japan are iPhones (iOS), even the nihonjin have mostly disregarded Sony phones, despite the 'home ground advantage' for Sony. I rest my case.

HTC has stopped selling phones long ago. And recently, there are rumours that LG is going to stop selling phones too.

Sony's other businesses (gaming, cameras etc) are doing well so it can afford the losses in the mobile division. The Japs are legendary in their stubbornness, can be a good or a bad thing.

Sony is not going to regain the market share, that ship had sailed in 2014-2016. It will now sell overpriced phones to a small group of hardcore Sony fanboys. Bleed less money or break even, rinse and repeat.
