A POLICE officer treated the force's database as his personal address book to check on the particulars of a girlfriend, her ex-husband and another acquaintance. Inspector Sylvester Marian, 44, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in a district court to using the police computer screening system without authority on 10 occasions between February and August 2005. He will be sentenced next Tuesday after his lawyer presents arguments for a lenient penalty The maximum punishment is a $5,000 fine and a two-year-jail term for each offence. Although Marian has admitted to disregarding these regulations, he is claiming trial to two other charges accusing him of corruption and providing false information to CPIB officers.
