While Sweden was subjected to intense criticism it is the only country that handled the pandemic correctly.

While the rest of the world is stuck in limbo waiting for a vaccine or a miracle the Swedes can move on with their lives.

There’s no escape a seasonal flu you just have to ride it out or follow papys way and keep one infected with 12 healthy ones for later use.... lol

Don’t forget in a crisis it’ll always increase the votes.

Agreed pls kee chiu.

The irony of the situation is that when it comes to the final tallies none of the shutdowns will have saved any lives. All it will have done is spread out the deaths. In fact this was the initial intention but along the way the narrative was changed from "flattening the curve" to "not a single death is acceptable".

agree with you. NZ was an anomaly with 0 cases but suddenly it became an expectation.

It is untrue to say countries are simply sticking around waiting for a vaccine.

NZ has handled the situation very well and they avoided the Swedish explosion in cases but still achieved the goal of flattening the curve. It was remarkable and Jacinda Ardern should be given the Nobel Peace Prize.

The whole idea is to avoid overburdening the healthcare system, even if in the long run, those who are meant to die will die anyway. Spreading the deaths out across months or even years rather than cramping all of it into a matter of weeks.

This is a fallacy and I'm not saying this just to knock my own PM which I find to be a wonderful person.

NZ handled the situation just like any other country that went into lockdown. The only difference is that NZ is so sparsely populated that it is easy to kill off a cluster unlike places like Melbourne, NYC etc which have very large immigrant populations who just ignore the rules and live on top of each other in high density estates.

The situation in cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, Stockholm etc is very much like the foreign worker dorms in Singapore where social distancing is impossible. If you take away the dorms in Singapore the country would have fantastic stats despite the high population.

The problem with NZ now is that the economy is dying. Covid may have been kept at bay but with 30% of GDP depending on tourism there is no light at the end of the tunnel because we can't open the borders yet and god knows when we can.
