Durians are aplenty in Malaysia this season, with some being sold at dirt cheap prices.

Mohd Ridzuan Alias said his village in Pengkalan Hulu, near the border with Thailand, had seen a bumper harvest this year, so much so that the villagers could not eat them all.

“We are tired of consuming our village-grown durians. So, we are letting them go at a cheaper price,” said the 33-year-old.

“I know some durians are expensive but ours, called the durian Kampung A, are sold in buckets filled with five or six fruits at only 30 ringgit (US$7).”

As the day wears on, he said the fruits on his stall in Jalan Permatang Pauh near Bandar Perda in Bukit Mertajam can go for as little as 50 ringgit for three buckets.

“I know it upsets other wholesalers that I’m selling them this cheap, but why not? I still make a profit and we have durians in abundance,” he said.

“I am licensed and have been selling durians here for the past five years.”

Despite bringing up to 3 tonnes of durians to his stall every day, Ridzuan said he is still able to sell all of his stock.

“My stall is open from 2pm to 10pm and sometimes I close earlier when my fruits are sold out, ” he said.

Ridzuan, who usually sells fruits at a local night market, said his durian stall is open for about three months each year.

Eric Yeap, who has a durian orchard in Balik Pulau, said durians, especially kampung durians, were being sold cheap as there seemed to be an oversupply.

“Earlier, only Penang had durians but now the season is in full swing, with all the other states having the fruit, too,” he said.

Durian is an unhealthy fruit because too much toxic chemicals (even banned in China) are added to the soils to kill the birds/wildlife when eating the flowers. Basically, the whole durian tree is poisoned (cancerous). Visit a durian farm and you will find it super quiet.

Next, serious Durian sellers are more dishonest than car dealers or property agents.

Kampung or Jungle Durian is the best, I always have them in Indonesia. Simple tastes, slim smooth flesh like virgin's pussy. MSW is too sweet for my liking but such tastes are more popular.

Durian is a cancer fruit. now even got xiao mao, 13, and MSW from different parts of Malaysia tastes differently (eg Pahang vs Johor)

Malaysian chinese are very weird. They are very good at cheating their own people. In the past few years, there were numerous MLM, gold-investment and oil-trading scams that targeted their own people.

there is generally 2 typo malay sells in jiu hu...one Kampung about RM 7 per kilo and another Kawain about RM12 per kilo ...i go for kampung and it taste marvellous

no ploblem ,I been bringing back kampung durian in plastic container back home ...not only me, a lot of sinkie malays too also do ...
all this Musang king durian ,a lot of crap ,the real one suppose to have an unmistakable star at the bottom ..gua Musang is not Musang king territory...Musang king was a selection of some particular tree which Musang ate ...but not from gua Musang..

gua Musang in kelantan is orang asli territory and since their land is easy to steal its made into durian plantation

can it be proven the durian fruit is toxic because of this? has AVA or any other lab tested the pulp for toxins?

So they are knowingly poisoning us?

Now curious if cancer rates are higher here that in the rest of ASEAN or on par.
