This is called kiang tio ho Mai Kay kiang indeed. Other airlines do fuel hedging for 12 months or two years but stupid SIA do hedging for five years.

But many examples from USA airlines to Air Canada showed they have either stopped or reduced their fuel hedging program in recent years after the last oil price plunge in 2015 whereas SIA did not update their fuel hedging policy apparently.

Hopefully their losses will recover. Count themselves lucky they are not NOL shareholders with no bailout. NOL was allowed to sink to the bottom of ocean while SIA not allowed to crash down to earth.
