People tend to misunderstand the role of the WHO. They have no power to compel countries to do anything. They are not a controlling authority. Their role is limited coordination, data sharing and putting out recommendations.

They are, of course, beholden to the countries that pay their wages and I guess the degree to which they are beholden is directly proportional to the amount countries contribute.

Of course they can be bribed. However even if they are not bribed they are still beholden because of the structure of the funding mechanism that allows WHO to exist in the first place.

The only way to stay absolutely neutral is if be self funded. The best example is this forum. I do not depend upon advertising revenue so I can pretty much allow all sorts of crap to be posted and the forum can still carry on.

However suppose I had a major advertiser who objected to @Valium and his broomstick use. I would have to remove him or risk losing my source of income.

Every country include Singapore should use their own in-house health expert to decide on measures rather then listen blindly to WHO chief??
