actually herpes viruses are in class of their own from what I know. All viruses that can stay dormant and return to an active state are from the herpes family. From warts or cold sores to shingles. All are herpes variants. I haven't heard of a virus that stays dormant like this outside of the herpes family. Something about hiding out in the CNS.

But common colds and influenza and other viruses are cleared totally. This coronavirus, well....

Ai Fen (Chinese: 艾芬; pinyin: Ài Fēn) is a Chinese doctor and director of the emergency department of Central Hospital of Wuhan. She is the first medical personnel to disclose the 2019–20 coronavirus epidemic to the outside world. She was given the nickname "The Whistle-Giver" (发哨子的人) in an article in the Chinese Renwu (or People) magazine, which the Chinese government censored, but which was reposted on the Chinese internet using emojis, Morse code and pinyin to circumvent censorship.[1]

Mononucleosis does not go away either. Neither does TB in some people.

I doubt very much that this covid-19 hangs around forever. It's just that when you keep looking for something you usually find it in the end.

If they checked for cold viruses the same way they'd probably find it hangs around longer than expected too.

I did not say that TB was a virus. I was pointing out that there is such a thing called latent TB where it hangs around for a long time and testing will indicate a positive result.
