Humans are adaptable. The economic system as we know it is something we invent to suit our convenience. Eg From barter trading to precious-metals backed currency to fiat system. Even if everything collapse, as long as there is supply and demand for things we need, we will thrive, and the resourceful will come in to fill the gaps. Much easier done today.

I find it hard to understand why Singapore as a society values and pays more for people to sit in air con environment to answer telephone and talk vs the guy who cuts wood and hammers it together to build actual products.

Political leaders normally are advised on health issues by their respective health ministries or departments. And these follow internationally recognised guidelines.
