"They could have chosen to go anywhere in the world, but they chose the West Virginia State Police Academy and that just tickles us to death," said Maj. Mark G. DeBord, the State Police Academy's director of training.

On the eve of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Singapore security workers traveled to the West Virginia State Police Academy on Thursday to learn how they can make their country a safer place by improving their police training.

The four Singaporese represented the Home Team Academy, the Southeast Asian island nation's rough equivalent to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. For one week, they're examining how various U.S. police and federal agencies train their agents.

"Law enforcement officers are expected to do a lot more than just police," he said. "And the job of the law enforcement officer is such that he has to do a lot more than other agencies, which have to work with each other as well," said Derek Pereira, chief executive of the Singapore academy.

Why don't they learn directly from NYPD (New York Police Department)?

They are the most experienced law enforcement agency to deal with terrorism and such, having faced off with several incidents before. New York is after all also the country's capital where its people often live in fear (and many have come to accept) of terrorist attacks, among other complicated social crimes and issues.

Why must NY . YOu watch too much TV !

Nope. New York is where all the action is, literally. Not even Los Angeles and Chicago come close. Do you read the dailies. You probably don't know about how complicated the social situation is over there in NYC, including the occurrence of countless terrorist attacks and bombing attempts past and present.

Junk your television, go out, read more, make some friends and inform yourself.

We don't have the scale and complications of NYC. We just a small city .
They will pick a city based on attributes similiar to Singapore to visit in order to justify.

The skyscapers of NYC is our our 2 cityblocks
