Japan closes Disneyland and Universal Studio. Why is Singapore's USS, Zoo etc still open? There is something that is not right about our approach.....

Temporary lah. Big countries can absorb the hit to the economy and then bounce back.

Can Singapore? I think it can. Just that those famed "reserves" will be less. If they are still there.

The collapse of SGD$ might be closer than we think. *Rubbing hands with glee*

HKD and RMB will collapse, and depending on how much the SGD is pegged to either of them, it might be in a world of shit.

PSA: if you still are holding on to HKD and RMB, better convert them to something else quickly. Otherwise you might not even have enough money to buy hell notes.

We must deepen the social distancing measures by shutting down all recreational facilities that has the potential to draw a crowd, such as movie theaters, the zoo, botanical gardens, Haw Par Villa. Singaporeans should stay at home as much as possible.

Keeping these facilities open is a black mark on our political leadership, which is pussyfooting. And if they are still concerned about the tourist dollar, they can bloody go screw themselves. Putting locals at risk just to keep the numbers flowing in? There'll be blood on that kind of money. These people are royal idiots.
Totally agree and all they need to do is bite the bitter pill for 21 days...its really a very useless country if it cant take on 21 days of near zero activity...also once everything is closed and people stay at home for 21 days, tourist will get the drift and less of them will come as well...if less of them less probability of imported cases also less contacts to trace if they are positive...and we still want to talk about saf ptui
The SAF's declared mission statement is to "enhance Singapore's peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor".

The coronavirus is just a minor infection for the majority so there is no need to go overboard and shut down the whole country. It's a ridiculous over reaction.

Not the whole country. Just recreational facilities and stuff that is unrelated to survival, healthcare, education, banking, and government administration.

A movie theater does not add to life at a time like this and should be shut.

I agree. This is not the time for entertainment. Movies, parks, casinos, clubs etc must be shuttered. These are potential breeding grounds for Covid-19 coronavirus, where primary and secondary infection can become very widespread. Essential services like banking and government services can remain open with increased vigilance on crowding.

SG ministers communicating fair amount of conflicting signals, micromanaging down to the level of picking issues with masks and it's supplies, and opening their big mouths to scold citizens for responding naturally to a crises, and telling people whether to wear masks or not instead of allowing disease experts to do the talking; well, good luck to all of them.

It's akin to swatting a goddamn fly with a sledgehammer. Closing cinemas, parks, casinos, clubs and what have you will lead to a massive spike in unemployment. It would kick in a chain reaction affecting every part of your lives including banking ie. if you have anything left in the kitty.
It's just one type of virus amongst many.

That's where the government should help. Not closing and letting the virus spreading community wide will kill many of us. Do you want your family members, relatives and friends to sacrifice their lives for inaction?

It wont lead to a massive spike in unemployment...if the country cannot go into shut down mode for 21 days what good is the government citizens and businesses in times of war or if malaysia decides to shut down water supply...I agree with sam and u its just a flu but shutting down non essential activities and gathering will definitely help...

u.s. just suspended all travel to and from europe for 30 days. wow! i'm gonna miss my italy trip for a reunion with my mafia bosses.

They didn't have enough masks in the first place. I thought the best approach to any crisis would be honesty and facts. Well, even if they had enough masks for the entire population, you will find pockets of idiots who would insist not putting on one when unwell.

Our multimillionaire ministers are very concerned about the economic impact of this virus. So far the virus already caused their pay cut and having to dip into the reserves to help companies. If close down major tourist attractions, their (I mean sinke) rice bowls would be further affected. How caring our multimillionaire ministers are. Long live PAP, huat ahhhhhh

Covid-19 is here to stay for the forseeable future until a workable vaccine is found. It isn't about 21 days, 30 days or 69 days shutdown. It's a pandemic and even if you embark on a deep cleansing exercise across the city, you'll never be able to rid of it.
Services is a sizeable component of GDP and employment. The G cannot be a nanny to every individual or company but yes I agree they could help.

NBA has already suspended the season.

What is the PAP Leegime waiting for, Christmas?

What good is money if you're too sick (or dead) to enjoy it? :whistling:

So you are in agreement that this fellow was lying.
