An Indian national who was offered a job in Singapore paying S$7500 a month has sought advice from netizens on whether the pay at his prospective job constitutes a “decent salary”.

The foreigner, reddit user u/pi_chu, shared online that he was offered a job at a “respectable” place in Singapore and that the employer is offering to pay him S$7,500 a month plus a year-end bonus of about 2 months’ salary.

Wondering if this is enough to rent a 1- or 2-bedroom apartment with hall and kitchen as well as provide for his wife, pet dog and himself, he asked netizens on the r/Singapore subreddit: “Hi guys. I am from India. I got a job at a respected place in Singapore. they are offering me 7500 sgd per month, plus year end variable that’s 2 month’s salary on average.

“The help I seek from you guys is, is that salary good enough for me, my wife, and my pet dog to be in Singapore, renting a 1/2bhk furnished flat? Is that a decent salary to be in Singapore?”

In the comments section of his post, the foreigner revealed that he is 36-years-old and that the job he has been offered in Singapore is in the education sector. He added that the salary he is being offered in Singapore is 3 times what he is currently earning in India.

While some offered him practical advice on what he can expect his living expenses to be in Singapore and advice on things to consider before his move, others sarcastically said that the salary he is being offered is more than enough to provide for his small family.

One netizen also advised the foreigner to be prepared for some animosity when he moves to Singapore since there is a perception among locals that foreigners come to Singapore to take their jobs.

This is not the first time that a foreigner has sought advice on career opportunities in Singapore on the r/Singapore subreddit. Earlier, another Indian national who snagged “dream job” in Singapore asked for advice on whether multiple companies could apply for his Employment Pass since he wants to switch jobs:

Dear Ceca,
Welcum to Sgp.
HAPPY DEEPAVALI.

Your salary is above $6,9K. Good.
Also ask for A Lexus or Audi or BMW .
With a ChioBu driver.
Car must be new. Less than 69 days.

Ask for a Condo.
Plus two maids.

Bonus must be 6.9 months.

CONGRATS.
I am so happy for you.

Welcum again.
We Love You.
