Danny Yong (born 1972) is a Singaporean hedge fund manager. He is the Chief Investment Officer and founding partner of Dymon Asia Capital. The firm was founded in 2008 and is a leading Asia focused alternative investment management firm based in Singapore. The firm is headquartered in Singapore with offices in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and Thailand. In May 2014, Temasek invested USD500 million in Dymon Asia's strategies and also took a minority stake in the company.[1] Dymon Asia Capital has 134 employees, including 65 investment professionals.
The firm's flagship Dymon Asia Macro Fund (DAMF) is a discretionary global macro hedge fund trading highly liquid instruments including Asian and G10 currencies, interest rates and futures. Both fundamental macro and technical analysis are the foundation to formulating trade ideas. A dedicated team of 26 Portfolio Managers with an average trading experience of 19 years, each brings distinct market expertise in various Asian and global markets and asset classes to DAMF. The Dymon Asia Macro Plus Fund is an enhanced version of DAMF.
Demonstrative of the Firm's specialty and expertise, the Dymon Asia Macro Fund was ranked in the top 50 by Bloomberg Businessweek in 2016's Top-Performing Funds with assets over USD1 billion.[2] Prior to 2016, the Dymon Asia Macro Fund was ranked amongst the top ten hedge funds globally in 2011 and in 2014. Yong has over 23 years of experience trading FX, fixed income and equity futures in Asia. Prior to founding Dymon Asia, he was a founding partner and Chief Investment Officer of Abax Global Capital, a hedge fund based in Hong Kong. Previously a Managing Director at Citadel Investment Asia, he established and ran the Asia Macro trading business from 2005 to 2007. Prior to Citadel, he was Head of Trading for South East Asian FX and Derivatives at Goldman Sachs, where he spent almost six years in its Hong Kong and Tokyo offices. Danny started his trading career at JP Morgan in 1997 as a FX currency and interest rates derivatives trader.
Personal life[edit]
Mr. Yong's father died when he was 10 years old. In 1992, Yong was serving his military service, becoming operations officer of the 24th Battalion of the Singapore Artillery. After serving in the military, he achieved first class honors in business and finance at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University.
