“Initially I wanted to do a Ph.D in Singapore but my GRE score (a US-based graduate entrance exam) was not great.”

Though she did not receive any offers during the first round of application, she was determined to pursue a Ph.D degree.

She was later granted the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award – a full scholarship for outstanding students from developing countries to pursue a Ph.D degree at the University of Cambridge.

She continued to make her mark when she was awarded the St Catharine’s College Graduate Prize for Distinction in Research during her stint in Cambridge. She then went on to receive the prestigious Cancer Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship in the United States.

The former research assistant at GIS now heads the antibody diversification team at Shanghai Institute of Immunology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China.

“Prof Huck Hui Ng from GIS once told me, ‘work hard, and the sky is the limit’. I now tell my students those very same words.”

In 2017, Yeap was selected by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) to receive the Excellent Young Scientist Fund, which is aimed at nurturing young talents with innovative potential.

One of the few that slip through the net. Singapore hiring committee not sharp enough.
Reject this aspiring scientist and possible Nobel prize candidate.

I went to school with a classmate who eventually became a Mathematics Professor... Me still an ordinary folk in the World Wide World and so does majority of my classmates. Why he became a Mathematics Professor and was more successful than the rest of us is .... simply he is smarter. Not that I never tried to do well but advance calculus and trigonometry are simply out of grasp for me.

Ask yourself why some others could learn and understand abstract theories easily while others struggles. Because these people are simply more intelligent. If the West suppress the Africans on purpose, how do explain Middle Eastern countries? They are still unable to contribute any knowledgeable stuff even with oil money.

Look at Hong Kong and Singapore, they prospered even during British rule and don't tell me the West never suppress them. Look at them today, after the West left they evolve their politically system to suit themselves. They had learned and surpassed the West. If the majority of the population or RACE are not intelligent enough, the country will find difficulties to progress. This is the sad truth.

The world is better off because there is generosity. If everyone is as calculative as you, you will still be a sinkee.

It's easy to be generous when it's not using money from the pockets of left wing bleeding heart faggot loving liberal fuckwits..but the tax payer.

Can start with Prof Andrew Ng, Top 100 most influential people in Time back in 2013.

Think about it, I think most, if not all, NUS lecturers got their PhDs elsewhere and not from NUS itself. I can only recall Prof Peter Ng getting his PhD from NUS and having him lecturing in NUS.

NUS wants to be the Harvard of the East...No way it can achieve this...
The university here is under a Ministry, which is under a Minister, which is under the PAP
No way it can achieve a high international ranking if it curtail academic freedom.

Some are of the opinion that many dead wood can be found in the Arts and social sciences where
no Nobel laureate will ever join them there.

NUS being Harvard of the East? I’m not counting on it in my living years :coffee::coffee::coffee:
