I plan to buy an annual travel insurance for my frequent travels. However, if for some reason during the period I'm insured I'm offered a long-term Visa, say in Thailand, and I move to Thailand to stay for a year, does the an annual travel insurance cover my stay as a long-term visa holder ? Or do I need to purchase a new insurance in the country where I reside as a long-term visa holder ?

You have to read the fine print in your insurance policy.

I haven't bought any. But as I now understand, even if it's annual plan it covers only for a max 90 days overseas, after which you have to return to your own country.

My relative was based in Shanghai and guangzhou as an international school english teacher...she did buy the annual insurance..she had a very bad stroke when in guangzhou and luckily her insurance was comprehensive and it included aero medical evac(very impt cos one trip back to sg as medical case is avg 50k)...now she is living off the insurance proceeds

Was it a "travel" insurance ?

Yes definitely a travel insurance but the payouts she is getting now could be from riders or life...remember wherever u r going also can check past history how does the sg embassy and local government helps...another of my frens daughter got a serious hi when she was knocked over by a bus..she had a cranactomy and stayed more than a mth in the hk hospital all medical paid for by the hk govt

travel insurance usually covers partial cost of trip cancellations, postponement, bookings, change of plans. it is not a health insurance.

Can you recommend some of the best health insurance plans available in the market ? I'm looking for something that will cover outpatient visits, both inside and outside Singapore.

must ask folks in thigh oops thai thread. they know best. otherwise ask johnny. he would fly to bangcock to do his teeth cleaning because it cost less there (without adding airfare and hotel).
